Cyber Range OpenVPN Client Setup on Windows

OpenVPN GUI is an OpenVPN client for Windows to connect to the Big Data Lab VPN and the Cyber Range VPN. This guide shows you how to install the OpenVPN GUI program and connect to the Cyber Range VPN.

  1. Download the OpenVPN client installer:

  2. Launch the installer and follow the prompts as directed.

  3. Click “I Agree” to continue.

  4. Leave the default selection of components and click “Next”.

  5. Accept the default installation path and click “Install”.

  6. When prompted, click “Install” to allow the virtual network adapter to be setup.

  7. Wait for the installation to complete and click “Next”.

  8. Click “Finish” to complete the wizard.

  9. Before you can connect to the VPN, you must first download a client profile. Go to https://app.cr.cyber.hofstra.edu, enter your Cyber Range credentials and click “Login”. If you do not yet have a Cyber Range account, follow the Cyber Range User Registration guide to create one.

  10. Click on your name or profile picture in the top left hand side of your dashboard menu.

  11. Click the “Download Certificate” button.

  12. Move the “.ovpn” file into the directory C:\Program Files\OpenVPN\config

  13. To connect connect, start OpenVPN GUI and right click the icon in the taskbar notification area. Click “Connect” from the menu.

  14. A balloon will pop-up to notify you once the connection has been established.
